After his early childhood in California, Dad emerged from a Japanese internment camp in Arkansas to excel in his Washington Heights, NY high school. He graduated with distinction from NYU, happy and ambitious with a diversity of friends and a young bride. But at one of his first jobs, Dad again experienced prejudice. Sadly that triggered an anger and bitterness that he was never able to put behind him. Despite the rejection that he felt, Dad was very successful. He earned his masters and later an MBA. When he left United Technologies, he decided to start his own consulting firm. With connections from his previous jobs, he did well filling our basement with reams of manuals, draftsmen and smoke. If you ask him what was most important to him, Dad would say family and faith. We have great memories of our vacations together to the Jersey shore, Florida, and being in the trailer on our epic drive across the country. The grandkids fondly remember their trips to Myrtle Beach and visits over the holidays. Shortly after becoming a Christian in 1979, Dad helped form Somerset Hill Bible Chapel with a small group of other families. This began a ministry he enjoyed - contributing to small local assemblies. He served as an elder later at South Brach Bible Fellowship and Twin Tiers Bible Chapel. His favorite verse is Ephesians 1:4-5, “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.” Dad drew strength knowing that God chose him. The Creator God loved, accepted and valued him as he is, for who he is. Unlike what he experienced from others, he is truly special in God’s eyes. Dad enjoys playing games – canasta, Hollywood rummy, solitaire and Rummikub. Like his brothers, he loved to file things. Boxes, cabinets and binders full of things! For many years, he kept a small vegetable garden and collected stamps and coins. He loves potato chips, chocolate ice cream and a freshly caught fish. His legacy lies in the things he values. He provided an environment in which we loved and learned and grew in our appreciation of family and faith. That is a timeless gift to each of us which we will surely pass on to the generations that follow. Thank you Dad!
We did not know Sus but we have had the privilege of knowing David and his family - part of Sus' heritage on this earth. So we thank God for him and his care for his family. May God bless and comfort you as you remember and grieve together.
I was always so touched by how Mr.Narita gladly and graciously welcomed me into his home on my first visit and to many events with his family after that. He is always so kind and asks about my family. When my mom went with me to their home at the time of Tracy’s wedding she too felt the same love and welcoming. It is nice to hear his voice in the video and I love the pictures. Praying for comfort and peace. I am not sure the Narita family knows how important they have been in my walk with the Lord but I want to say Thank you!

We think of the years we have known you, Jeanne, and your family –starting in New Jersey when our congregations met in the same church building on different days, soon realizing that our common faith in Jesus united us. What a beautiful tribute to Sus! Thank you for this. We have happy memories of Sus and Jeanne when we would visit our daughter and family in the Binghamton area. They took us out for lunch our first time visiting the church and made us feel welcome, like part of the church family at Twin Tiers. Their warmth and hospitality and love for the Lord shine through in everything they do. Even now, Sus states in the video that he does not want to have the focus on himself, but he desires for the Lord to be glorified. And the Lord is being glorified through him! From the day we first met at Mountain Ridge Bible Chapel in NJ, both yourself and Jeanne made us feel welcome and your kindness was felt even then. Over the years we fellowshipped at South Branch and Twin Tiers, and what always came across so clearly about you, Sus, was your gentleness. “Let your gentleness be known to all men.” In a time of need, you provided us with employment. You were a kind and patient mentor to our son, Mark, as he grew in the Lord before you at Twin Tiers. It has always been a privilege to know you, a privilege and a blessing. Grandpa, Every moment spent with you has always left a smile on my face. I distinctly remember when I was little I asked you to play old maid with me and you happily did even though it was repetitive and boring. I have really enjoyed all the times where we would play games like grandpa’s game and canasta together laughing and trying to figure out which is the orange and the red tile in rummikub. And, even though we never really talked much, I will always cherish those conversations and memories we’ve shared together. Your faith in God is inspiring and beautiful as you let his light shine through you everyday. You wowed me on our first date - a movie in Times Square, THE BENNY GOODMAN STORY, and late supper in a Chinese restaurant overlooking the Square! This fifteen year old had never been on such a date before. Then a few months later you asked me to "go steady" but I refused. But your constant attentions and fabulous dates won me over and we were married on April 4, 1959!
THANK YOU for being a faithful husband who endured great trials at work and yet, provided so well for our family! We enjoyed many memorable, repeated vacations in such places as DisneyWorld and Myrtle Beach and the privilege of sending our children to Ivy League colleges.
But most of all, THANK YOU for allowing our Lord to make you the spiritual leader of our home! Your lesson on who is sitting on the throne of our minds will always be crucial in our walk with Jesus - may He always be in total control of all our thoughts, words, and actions so we can bring Him pleasure and glory!
Our hearts are saddened to think of your departure from our family but we know that we will all soon be reunited with you in heaven to spend eternity with our Lord!!!
